The Closet is a multifunctional LGBTQ+ retail and community space in Glasgow’s Merchant City, exploring how fashion and interior design can create a more inclusive and socially engaging retail experience. The project challenges conventional ideas around gendered shopping environments, bringing retail, performance and community activity together within a space designed to encourage self-expression and connection.

At the centre of the design, circular gender-neutral changing rooms create a shared and inclusive experience, while mirrored displays, flexible elements and fold-down theatre seating allow the interior to adapt between everyday retail and events. A bold material and colour palette of red, petrol blue, dusty pink and reflective finishes gives the space a distinct visual identity, balancing theatricality with functionality to create an environment that feels expressive, welcoming and adaptable.
